After stress, ATM or ATR transmits the DNA damage signal by phosphorylating Chk1, Chk2, p53 and other proteins, which in turn regulate the cell cycle, DNA repair and apoptosis.

Together, our findings demonstrate that JNK, and in particular the JNK1 isoform, support the growth of melanoma cells, by controlling either cell cycle progression or apoptosis depending on the cellular context.

In addition, Pyk2 and FPhy2 to a greater extent also inhibited Erk activation in cell adhesion whereas FAK and PFhy1 stimulated it, suggesting a role for Erk activation in mediating differential regulation of cell cycle by Pyk2 and FAK.
